Pre-bookings for Greece are picking up pace by as much as 30 percent, according to Greek Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura.
Speaking to public broadcaster ERT, Minister Kountoura said Greek tourism is continuing its success story into the new year with the number of advance reservations at Greek destinations moving upward between 15 and 30 percent, paving the way, she said, for a new record year.
Kountoura reiterated the ministry’s strategy which includes extending the tourism season as well as attracting new flights to Greece, while pointing to the contribution of the sector to the country’ s economy with 14.7 billion euros in revenue for 2017.
In the meantime, the minister met with the mayor of Istiaia-Edipsos Eleni Efstathiou to discuss the tourist development of the municipality and the surrounding region.
Edipsos, located on the island of Evia, is known for its healing thermal springs and spas. Kountoura and Efstathiou discussed ways to tap into the potential of the region through the promotion of spa, adventure and sports tourism.
