Man commits suicide from ferry in front of helpless passengers

The testimony of a man who ran to save, but failed, a middle-aged man who fell (or, as everyone seems to think, jumped) from ferry Blue Star Naxos on Tuesday night, losing his  is deeply shocking.

The eyewitness, also a passenger of the ship, told naxostimes.gr:

"It was just before 9:00 in the evening. Soon we would dock at Syros and I sat in front of the top deck of the ship and sent some emails until I heard a woman screaming, "Hey, what are you doing there?". I turned my head and saw a middle-aged man clinging to the side railings of the ship, 20 meters from me and fromon the outside. I was shocked ... I ran with all my might to prevent him ... InBy the time I took my last step he had fallen into the sea ... I saw him fall ... For a few seconds I missed catching and saving him. He left in front of my eyes and I could do nothing ... ", said 34-year-old EA really shaken. from Naxos.

As he noted, the man was determined to commit suicide, since all his moves led to this conclusion.


"He was middle-aged. He was wearing a black cap and a checkered brown jacket. As I heard he was on the lower deck and at that time climbed up and headed to the side. He climbed on the rails and stepped out on the outside of the ship. He held the railing ... There were no people there - on the side - because despite the good weather it was quite cold. We were sitting on the deck. A woman got wind of what he was doing and she cried out. I ran, but I did not make it in time. I immediately notified the Coast Guard. The ship stopped and we threw a life jacket ... I saw him fall. I saw him dropping through the water and then his cap floating on it. He left before my eyes."

According to EA. the anxiety of everyone on the ship was great and they watched the rescue operation minute by minute pleasing to find the man and to be good at his health. The ship's crew checked on passengers in order to ascertain the identity of the man.

"Unfortunately, after about two hours, he was found dead. The loudspeakers of the ship informed us that the ship was continuing its journey ... ".

"I will never forget this night," says 34-year-old E.A. who saw the incident of the man who wanted to put an end to his life unfolding in front of his eyes, making a "dive to death" into the icy waters of the Aegean Sea ...

It should be noted that the alarms that a ship passenger fell overboard sounded at ten minutes to nine am while Blue Star Naxos was sailing four nautical miles northwest of Syros.
