Journalist Kostas Vaxevanis arrested

Journalist Kostas Vaxevanis was arrested on Monday after former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras had filed a lawsuit against him on the Novartis case.
Vaxevanis was arrested at the end of his trial on the Lina Stournara (spouse of Bank of Greece governor Yiannis Stournaras) case and was taken to the Ampelokipoi Police Station.
Antonis Samaras filed the lawsuit against the journalist on Sunday afternoon, claiming the reporter had slandered him.
Aides of the former PM told Athens News Agency, that “the vulgar and provocative post by Kostas Vaxevanis on social media against Mr Samaras is proof of degradation,” adding that “the ordered mission that he has been undertaken for some time is being exposed more and more, day by day”.
Vaxevanis publishes the pro-government weekly journal Hotdocand in the past faced charges for releasing a list of nameson the so-called Lagarde List of Greeks that had sequestered money abroad,and was acquited. However,he has used the journalto stage vitriolic attacks against anyone who criticizes the government.
