Justice probes Hellenic Postbank toxic loans

Investigation magistrates,Raikou and Andreadis are examining the connection of suspect loans to allegations of money laundering and fraud.

At least 10 arrest warrants were issued late Wednesday for Hellenic Postbank executives. The warrants were issued in connection with suspect loans worth more than 400 million euros given by Hellenic Postbank between 2006-2011.

Police are seeking several Greek and Cypriot businessmen, former CEOs and other staff of Hellenic Postbank following a probe into the loans on charges of money laundering and fraud.

An arrest warrant involves the owner of Alpha TV, Dimitris Kontominas. Kontominas, who has been in hospital the past few days due to respiratory problems, is guarded as of yesterday, after his arrest warrant was executed.

Former alternate general manager, Marios Varotsis was taken to the Atttica Police Headquarters, GADA, while former Network General Manager, Haralambos Liagoudis,was held at the Thessaloniki Police Headquarters.

Former CEOs Angelos Filippidis and Kleon Papadopoulos, businessman Kyriakos Griveas and his wife, Anastasia Vatsika, Cypriot shipowner Michalis Ellinas and General Manager of the bank,Harris Siganos, are among the names included in the warrants. Sources say that Griveas, Vatsika and Filippidis are not in the country and therefore international warrants must be issued for their arrest.
