Assistant Secretary, Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Wess Mitchell, sent a message late on Tuesday that the United States of America counts Greece in its strategic planning as a pillar of stability for the wider region of the Southeastern Mediterranean and the Balkans.
Mitchell was addressing the think tank Heritage Foundation in Washington.
Analyzing how the US plans to build a stronger US presence in the Eastern Mediterranean, Mitchell referred to the geopolitical role of Greece as well as the upgrading of Greek-American relations.
"We support Greece as a pole of stability in the eastern Mediterranean and the Western Balkans," he said.
