Infant trafficking ring busted by Chalkida police

An organized infant trafficking ring was busted by police in Chalkida, leading to nine arrests.

Two police officers, a man and a woman, were introduced to the ringl as a candidate couple of newborn baby buyers. They met in an area of ​​Attica with a 40-year-old, who had the role of intermediary, and they agreed to buy a baby in just four days for 18,000 euros.

The 40-year-old led the two police officers to an apartment in another area of ​​Attica where, during a surprise operation, the other eight members of the ring were also caught.

In addition to the 40-year-old acting as middleman, five other women aged 29, 35, 34, 28 and 29 were arrested and three men aged 39, 41 and 32. All of them are aliens and have distinct roles in the ring.

More specifically, the 39-year-old was the leader of the ring. This is a person who had previously been involved with the authorities for similar offenses.

The 41-year-old and the 32-year-old were in charge of supervising the women who were identified in the flat, while the 35-year-old acted as a direct assistant to the leader of the ring.

The 40-year-old, as mentioned above, had the role of intermediary, while the other four women, one of whom brought with her her newborn infant to be sold to the police, had the role of gestation, in order to sell their newborn infants, to potential buyers.

Indeed, following an investigation by a public hospital, it was scientifically proven that three of the women who were arrested - the 38-year-old both 29-year-olds had recently given birth, while the 34-year-old is pregnant.
 
In the possession of the arrested, a total of EUR 9,025 was seized as a criminal proceeds, as well as ten mobile phones, as a means of facilitating their criminal activities.

The arrested, with their case file, were brought to the Prosecutor's Office in Athens, while the investigation, by the Security Department of Chalkida, is in full swing to gauge the whole range of the criminal activity of the ring.
