The fire broke out at about 8 o'clock in the morning, on Knossos Avenue in Heraklion, near the Venizelio Hospital. The atmosphere in the area is stuffy, while smoke is visible from afar.
Firefighting forces are constantly being strengthened. There are 42 firefighters with 21 vehicles, 40 fire fighters on foot and two helicopters. The Fire Brigade commander also prompted for the assistance of the ambulance services.
Instantly, there was anxiety about the students who were in the dormitories at the time the fire broke out and came out running as soon as they realized what was going on. No injured or trapped students have been reported. The building of the outbreak was evacuated, while the police, in cooperation with the rectorate, had asked for communication with all the students staying in the dormitories to ensure that no one is inside the building.
