New Democracy: Turkish maps unacceptable

Turkish maps that were published in the Sunday edition of Kathimerini newspaper, known in Greece, since the period 2010-2012, are unacceptable, said main opposition New Democracy (ND) shadow foreign minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos in a statement to Athens-Macedonian News Agency on Sunday.
"They deliberately ignore fundamental rules of the international Law and the UN Treaty on the law of the Sea" he noted.
These unacceptable maps reflect Ankara's logic of destabilisation in the Aegean and the eastern Mediterranean, said Koumoutsakos adding that "Greece has made repeated approaches to Turkey from June 2012 and with an official note verbale to the UN in 2013 has, with comprehensive and documented arguments brought down the arbitrary Turkish positions and in parallel has guaranteed the Greek rights".
He underlined that "Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar in his recent trip to Libya, re-introduced, seven years later, the unacceptable and provocative maps" reaffirming "the Turkish effort to hinder the developments in the energy sector in eastern Mediterranean that have left Turkey out of the game because it refuses to apply the international law".
"Greece, Cyprus, Israel, Egypt and the Lebanon as well as the EU and the whole international community owe to send a clear message to Ankara that any destabilisation attempt will not be accepted" he underlined.
Koumoutsakos asked the issue to be discussed in depth and in detail in the confidential framework of the National Council of Foreign Policy for which has pledged Mr. Tsipras after assuming the Foreign Minister's office. "The government must, at least in this of vital importance matter, to officially inform the country's political forces and to form the conditions for convergence in a major foreign policy issue for the country" concluded Koumoutsakos.
