Greek exports up 24% in October

"Greek exports made a strong performance early in the fourth quarter of the year, rising by 24 pct in October. A rising trend of Greek exports throughout the year creates optimism over achieving a new export record, although on the other hand, an increase in imports is a cause of concern and brings back to focus the need to support domestic product,” the Panhellenic Exporters Association said in an announcement released on Friday.

The announcement was made after Hellenic Statistical Authority released its report on merchandise trade in October, which showed that the total value of exports-dispatches, in October 2018 amounted to 3.118,5 billion euros in comparison with 2.514,9 million euros in October 2017, recording an increase, in euros, of 24.0 pct. The corresponding change excluding oil products recorded in October 2018 an increase of 210.4 million euros or 11.7 pct and the corresponding change excluding oil products and ships in October 2018 recorded an increase of 209.1 million euros or 11.6 pct.

The statistics service said that the total value of imports-arrivals, in October 2018 amounted to 5.324.2 billion euros in comparison with 4.734.0 billion euros in October 2017, recording an increase, in euros, of 12.5%. The corresponding change excluding oil products in October 2018 recorded an increase of 206.8 million euros or 5.9 pct and the corresponding change excluding oil products and ships in October 2018, recorded an increase of 559.9 million euros or 17.7 pct.
The total value of imports-arrivals, for the 10-month period from January to October 2018 amounted to 46.428.1 billion euros in comparison with 42.007,8 billion euros for the corresponding period of the year 2017, recording an increase, in euros, of 10.5 pct. The corresponding change excluding oil products recorded an increase of 1.272.6 billion euros or 4.0 pct and the corresponding change excluding oil products and ships recorded an increase of 2.812.6 million euros or 9.6 pct.

The deficit of the trade balance, in October 2018 amounted to 2.205,7 billion euros in comparison with 2.219,1 million euros in October 2017, recording a drop, in euros, of 0.6 pct.The corresponding change of deficit excluding oil products in October 2018 recorded a drop of 3.6 million euros or 0.2 pct and the corresponding change excluding oil products and ships in October 2018 recorded an increase of 350.8 million euros or 25.9 pct.

The deficit of the trade balance, for the 10-month period from January to October 2018 amounted to 18.645,1 billion euros in comparison with 18.392,3 million euros for the corresponding period of the year 2017, recording an increase, in euros, of 1.4 pct. The corresponding change excluding oil products recorded a drop of 670.5 million euros or 4.3 pct and the corresponding change excluding oil products and ships recorded an increase of 923.9 million euros or 7.1 pct. The total value of exports-dispatches, for the 10-month period from January to October 2018 amounted to 27.783,0 million euros in comparison with 23.615,5 billion euros for the corresponding period of the year 2017, recording an increase, in euros, of 17.6 pct. The corresponding change excluding oil products recorded an increase of 1.943,1 billion euros or 11.8 pct and the corresponding change excluding oil products and ships recorded an increase of 1.888,7 billion euros or 11.6 pct.
