IED explodes outside Temple in Athens, one police officer injured

A police officer was injured after an improvised explosive device, inside a box, exploded at 07:10 outside the church of St. Dionysios at the junction of Skoufa and Lykavittou streets in Kolonaki. The officer is no danger and is , reportedly hospitalized at the 401 Army General Hospital of Athens.
As police sources pointed out, a call from a church accolade of the temple to police first responders was made concerning a suspicious box outside the church. At that point a patrol car arrivd almost immediately, as it was in close proximity, and as soon as the officer got off and approached, the bomb exploded, causing injuries to the officer who was afterward taken to 401 military hospital by ambulance.
The blast slightly injured the officer in the face and also caused light injuries to the young man from the temple, who was taken to the Evangelismos Hospital for first aid. According to the information so far, no warning phone call for the explosive device has been made. The wider area of Kolonaki has been blocked by powerful police forces.
However, the explosion of the improvised explosive device was not very powerful, according to police sources. According to the same sources, the improvised explosive device consisted of two containers of flammable liquid, wires and a watch.
