Turkish frigate runs aground near naval base
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
On Thursday 3rd December, TCG Turgutreis (F-241) a Yavuz-class MEKO-200TN TrackI ran aground in the Ishill Gulf, a short distance from the coast.
The Turkish frigate was a short distance from Gölcük, the Turkish Navy's main base, when the incident occurred. Although at least four hours had elapsed since the incident was published, the ship had not moved away from the point of impact, and a Turkish missile boat was sailing for safety reasons next to the frigate.
