Hellenic Army Chief visits snowed in Vasilitsa outpost

Featured Hellenic Army Chief visits snowed in Vasilitsa outpost

This morning's surprise visit of the Hellenic Army chief at the post "Vasilitsa" at the Templ of Larissa Municipality was the only reason for the postponement of the  "teleconference" scheduled for every Monday morning with the commanders of all the major formations and administrations of the Hellenic Army.

The reason, of course, for the sudden presence of the Chief of General Staff at "Vasilitsa", belonging to the 1st Army / EU-OHQ responsibility bearing the honorary historical name "Achilles", was not of a ceremonial character for the exchange of wishes, or for some another army issue. But this particular post was the only one of the Army's 1500 army outposts and units all over the country, which had been closed off by the severe weather of the past few days as it is at an altitude of 1,035 meters!

So the Chief, immediately after the road was opened, accompanied by the Commander of the 1st Army, Lieutenant General Zervakis, was the first "visitor" of our previously "blocked" post. In this context, the Chief, during his visit, of course exchanged wishes with the Guard of the post on the occasion of the New Year, while at the same time appreciating the high morale of his troops, who proudly perform their duties at that altitude.

Then, as announced by the General Staff, the Chief visited the Mayor Konstantinos Kollatso at the Tempi Town Hall, at the invitation of the latter, who thanked him for the excellent cooperation in an area with special morphological and climatic conditions and especially for his assistance for opening of the road leading to the outpost.

The postponed weekly teleconferencing of the Chief, was rescheduled for tomorrow.
