Tesla executives meet with Environment Minister

Executives of American energy company Tesla expressed their interest in the "smart islands" and "energy islands" initiatives promoted by the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MEE) during a meeting held on Tuesday with Minister Giorgios Stathakis.
According to an MEE announcement, the main topics of the meeting were the reduction of dependency on fossil fuel, especially for the islands not scheduled to join the mainland power grid in the coming years; and the gradual switch to Renewable Energy Sources (RES), as set out in the goals envisaged by the National Energy and Climate Plan.
The announcement also stresses that a significant reduction in the cost of storing and producing energy means that the switch to RES is not only environmentally useful but also economically profitable for the islands.
