An alarm was sounded early today at Hellenic Police HQ as a Turkish citizen, after setting fire to two abandoned buildings in Exarcheia, holed up in a third and threatened to put an end to his life.
Everything started at dawn Friday, when the Turk, probably a drug addict, set fire to two abandoned buildings on Spyrou Merkouri street.
However, the inhabitants discovered what was happening, they spotted him and he ran and barricaded himself in another abandoned building on Zaimi Street.
The police special negotiators approached the buildong. as the Turk threatened to put an end to his life and after an hour they managed to persuade him to surrender. He just handcuffed and taken to the police station to face inquisitors in the morning.
