Samos: Mass citizen demonstration against migrant center
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Hundreds of inhabitants of Samos participated in the demonstration that took place on the island, in the framework of the strike staged by the whole island, on the occasion of the refugee center.
The situation on Samos is uncontrolable, as thousands of refugees from the hospitality structure walk around the island without any state care, with the result that residents and shopkeepers complain about the lost regularity in their everyday life, while ringing the alarm for the outbreak of diseases, a consequence of destitute migrants' living conditions.
With the central slogan "close the hospitality structure" of the refugees, residents came out on the streets, sending a signal to the Ministry of Migration Policy, aware that there are currently 5,000 refugees and migrants on the island, and their hosting structure can cover needs of just 700 people! This has resulted in tents scattered throughout the island, people living in the mud, cold, rain, vulnerable to illness, defecating where they find ...
"We will never allow the island of Pythagoras to become an open prison. We are not against immigrants and refugees. We are on their side. We experience their pain, their despair and their misery. We are neither racist nor xenophobic, and, of course, we do not have anti-government beliefs. We love the island and we will not be the ones who will leave it to its fate," the residents say.
