The first crematorium for the cremation of the deceased is expected to be built in Volos, as announced on Friday, by alternate interior minister Leonidas Grigorakos.
Answering a question by SYRIZA mp Nikos Voutsis, the alternate minister said: “The Volos municipality has a positive outlook. The crematorium is planned for operation. We are proceeding with the process and the issuing of a presidential decree for the installation and operation of one crematorium furnace for cremation of the deceased at Volos municipality. We hope this will be realized very soon”.
Mr Grigorakos left innuendos concerning delays in the creation of crematoriums as certain municipalities quickly take decisions on the issue and then rescind them after pressure. The alternate minister also named some cases including the municipalities of Drapetsona-Keratsini, Markopoulo, Thessaloniki, and Zografou.
