Greece is now a source of solutions, US Ambassador Pyatt says

He noted that the meeting between the new Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during the Greek minister's trip to Washington, which started on Wednesday, indicate the speed at which U.S.-Greek relations are progressing, noting that they are now at their highest point yet.

"We are delighted with our relationship and our cooperation," Pyatt said, adding that the two countries were now collaborating in a number of areas, including energy and trade.

He also highlighted Greece's role as a 'protector' and pillar of stability in the Southeastern Mediterranean, while focusing on the entry of North Macedonia to NATO and hailing Greece's efforts to improve relations with Turkey.

"We welcome Greece's effort to deepen relations with Turkey, because we are all allies," he said and stressed that nobody can bear an accident in the region. In fact, Pyatt noted that Recep Tayyip Erdogan's congratulatory phone call to Mitsotakis, which was the first call by a head of state, was very important.

"Our goal is stability, peace and resource utilisation in the region," Pyatt said, and welcomed the smooth transition at both the Greek national defence ministry and the Greek foreign ministry.

He also personally thanked Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for his recognition of the Venezuelan president and noted that it was an ND government in 2014 that had done the groundwork for the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline.

"Greece plays an important role in the region and we are experiencing the best time in Greek-American relations," the Ambassador said, referring to a coincidence of interests.

Lastly, referring to Turkey, he said that it is in Turkey's best interests to have a good relationship with Greece.
