Vassiliki Thanou: I will not resign

Featured Vassiliki Thanou: I will not resign

"In 2009 I had actually said that a judge should not go on to an independent authority post or other government post." This was acknowledged in statements by the current media focus, the Chairman of the Competition Committee, Vassiliki Thanou, but she insists that she will not resign.

"Throughout this decade, most presidents of independent authorities are judges because everyone believes that a judge because of his or her capacity has the experience and knowledge to administer an independent authority. So after seeing that this has been adopted by everyone, it makes no sense for me to insist," she said characteristically speaking on ANT1 television after yesterday's debate between PM Mitsotakis and opposition leader Tsipras in Parliament.

Subsequently, summoned to comment on any benefits arising from her current position, Vassiliki Thanou has characteristically underlined that she is receiving 100 euros less than her pension, which has been suspended.

Vassiliki Thanou: "I've Been Targeted"
"The fuss proves that there is interest from actors and factions, but also the attempt of forcible dismissal," Vassiliki Thanou also said, while describing it as "self-evident" that the arrangement with which she is being dismissed is "photographic" since she said, "it concerns one of the 22 Independent Authorities operating in the state" and commented in that "they are not interested in the impartiality and independence of the other authorities".

"I think all this empathy proves the allegation of a photographic coding," Mrs Thanou underlined, referring to her being targeted by the government, which she said linked her to the former prime minister.

"Indeed, I was the head of the law office of the former prime minister," she said, adding that "everybody in these offices, is selected by the prime minister or is a technocrat. I was a technocrat too. I have never been a party person in the sense that ND wants to label me," Vassiliki Thanou continued, speaking at the same time about" arbitrary determination "that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had accused her of. "I am not a party person, I never belonged to any party," he said.

Thanou's answer to Voridis
Vassiliki Thanou described the "very inexcusable" way government officials expressed themselves and made a special reference to the Minister of Rural Development and Food, Maki Voridis, who she accused of "being charmed and going to the Prime Minister's office without remuneration".

"He should respect the institutional qualities that some have. No one has questioned my contribution in the last 42 years," Vassiliki Thanou said characteristically, speaking to ANT1. "They're trying to make it easier for me to get paid. I went because I wanted to share the knowledge and experiences I had. I was not interested in who the Prime Minister was, I went to contribute to the struggle the Prime Minister was giving to take the country out of the memoranda. I went to work just so they could no longer accuse me as they are accusing me now,” she continued.

"I'm not giving up"
Asked if he would step down to facilitate the situation, she said, "If I step down, it would be like getting involved in an illegal provision."
