New framework for waterways in Greece coming soon

The announcement followed a meeting held at the Greek Shipping Ministry between Greek Shipping Minister Yiannis Plakiotakis and representatives of the company Water Airports.

During the meeting, the representatives of Water Airports briefed the minister on the company’s latest action and on the course of establishing an extensive network of waterways that include the Greek islands and coastal areas. The company also informed the minister on the investment interest shown by international companies to operate seaplanes in Greece.

On his part, Minister Plakiotakis referred to the government’s will on establishing a waterway network in Greece.

He referred to the inter-ministerial meeting on waterways that was recently held at the Development and Investment Ministry that was attended by the ministers of Investment, Adonis Georgiadis; Transport, Costas Karamanlis; and Tourism, Harry Theoharis.

According to Plakiotakis, the Greek ministers agreed that a new institutional framework for the operation of waterways in Greece should be ready in two months.

The Greek waterways network is a project that has been delayed for some five years, due to a series of bureaucratic and complex obstacles.
