Migrants at Samos hotspot stage protests for a second day

Asylum seekers at the reception and identification center at the island of Samos held a protest on Thursday demanding their departure from the island, in continuation of their Wednesday protest for the same reason.
The center's staff left the premises to prevent potential escalation, then migrants moved outside the center at 15:30, shouting "Freedom," while the police kept watch and eventually accompanied the migrants back to the center.
On Wednesday, migrants had staged a sitting protest at a central square in the city of Samos, as they had been staying at the portion of the center that was burned down on Monday night when scuffles broke out among residents.
Many of these migrants now live at open-air public spaces around Samos city.
The municipality of eastern Samos mentioned that these incidents "are the result of over-populated hotspots," and that women and children that live there are reluctant to return, in fear of more scuffles," adding that the central government "needs to restore a sense of security among both migrants and local residents at large."
