Development bill runs against labor rights, Tsipras says during debate

Main opposition party SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras on Thursday evening launched a fierce critique against the government's development draft bill during its discussion in parliament, which "serves corporate interests," and is also characterized, he said, by an extremely neoliberal philosophy that runs against both labor rights and most people's interests.
Referring to the several last-minute amendments to the bill, Tsipras said "it started with 85 articles, was tabled with 213, and within hours it had acquired more than 234 articles with last-minute amendments," he observed.
The former prime minister also condemned what he called the government's "favorism" and "political clientelism" which he said was obvious in the inclusion of goldmining projects in the development bill, for example, which he said could only mean that the government "want(s) to endorse these projects not just in Chalkidiki (northern Greece) but also in other regions like Thrace."
Finally, Tsipras said that the "first 100 days of the post-electoral grace period is over," and warned that his party will now pursue a more acutely critical stance against rurling New Democracy's overall program.
