TRAINOSE: New projects, new trains and a single ticket for all transport means

Featured TRAINOSE: New projects, new trains and a single ticket for all transport means

TRAINOSE's intention to claim tens of millions of euros worth of upgrades to Athens's public transport trains following the completion of its merger with EESSTY, the rolling stock maintenance company, was announced by the company's CEO.

Speaking to reporters, Philippos Tsalidis said that the new TRAINOSE is now capable of servicing rail and road vehicles of all kinds, as upgrades to the company's maintenance plant in Thessaloniki will be completed in early 2020.

According to Mr. Tsalidis, TRAINOSE will take part in the tender for the upgrading of 15 ISAP trains with an estimated budget of 75 million euros. The modernization of the 15 ISAP trains consisting of about 75 wagons is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Infrastructure, as it will significantly upgrade the subway line 1. The most likely scenario is the bidding will be conducted by Attico Metro.

The head of TRAINOSE has revealed that the company will invest more than 10m euros in the creation of a single ticket that will allow people to travel by train, ship and plane.

The new ticket is expected to be ready by 2020 while TRAINOSE contacts with ferry and airline companies are in progress to reach partnerships.

Investing hundreds of millions of euros in trains
TRAINOSE will boost its fleet with five modern trains in the coming years, which will be able to develop speeds of more than 200 kilometers per hour when the signaling and telecommunication projects in the Athens-Thessaloniki section are completed.

According to Mr. Tsalidis, these are ETR 470 type trains, which were built between 1994-1997 and until recently operated on the Italian railway.

The first trains are expected to start operating on the Athens - Thessaloniki route by the end of 2020. The TRAINOSE ETR 470s will be fully rebuilt and their engines will have zero kilometers, the company 's chief executive said.
