Iran has threatened Greece over use of bases by US

It is recalled that Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his statements to the Atlantic Council in Washington had argued:

“First, we are allies with the US. We stand by our allies in difficult times. I understand that this decision was taken in the light of the US national interest. At the same time, we must be fully aware that there are widespread concerns about possible escalation and that efforts should be made to de-escalate the tension. We have and still have very close ties to the Arab world and consider ourselves honest players in the region, but we do not forget who our allies are and where we belong geopolitically. ”

Greece is the only country in Europe that has clearly been in favor of the Suleimani assassination and has openly offered all its military facilities and bases.

Scenarios of war and friendly relations

Mr Director, regarding the article by Mr Vassilis Nedos in the Sunday paper (5/1/2020), entitled ‘Concern in Athens over US-Iran escalation’ and in particular the assertion that Greece will take part in a possible US intervention against Iran, we would like to quote the following:

Given the friendly traditional and historical relations between the two countries, Iran and Greece, and the absence of any differences or tension between them in recent centuries, we believe that this position cannot be the official position of the Greek government and our friendly and historical relations will continue in the future.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly stated that it wants friendly and equitable relations with all countries in the world, but it will not remain indifferent and with arms crossed against any hostile action against the country’s territorial integrity and sovereign rights. It is clear that Tehran will stand heroically against any breach and effort of war and give a decisive response to the invaders.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has made it clear that in the event of a US-led war against the country, the disposition of bases by any country to the American invader will be considered hostile and Iran reserves the right to respond in a clear and decisive manner.
