Two killed in shootout in Anogia, Crete

Featured Two killed in shootout in Anogia, Crete

It all started at 10 on Saturday night, when a fierce quarrel broke out in Perachori, Anogia, between the 30-year-old victim Giorgos Xylouris and Manolis Kalomiris, the son of the 63-year-old who was killed, who is known for his distinctions in boxing.

The same information states that the 30-year-old was savagely attacked, while with the intervention of third parties, the two men separated.

Giorgos Xylouris, according to the information of cretalive.gr, returned armed from his house and there it seems that 63-year-old Lefteris Kalomiris, known for wanting to prevent evil, stepped in the middle so that no massacre would take place. In a few seconds, however, it seems that the awful deed happened. Kalomiris fell dead struck bya bullet.

After that, Xylouris fell dead, shot six times by Kalomiris' son, while there was also an injury (to the leg) of another 30-year-old who stepped in to separate them.

According to the first information, 63-year-old Lefteris Kalomiris, known for his mantinades (local rhymes) in Crete - who, among other things, had been president of the Anogia Cultural Association and president of the Anogia Municipal Council - received a bullet in his body from the 30-year-old's gun.

The 30-year-old received six bullets from the victim's son's gun.

Absolute silence prevails in the village at the moment, while the funeral of the 30-year-old took place on Sunday afternoon in Anogia and the funeral of the 63-year-old will take place on Monday afternoon.

The victims were taken to the Anogia Health Center, where police arrived immediately in order to forestall any problems between the two families. "It simply came to our notice then. No unseemly behavior was displayed by the relatives of the dead. These are difficult times for our village and we, the residents, must be able to support the families and calm down the place ", said the priest of Anogia, Andreas Kefalogiannis
