Coastal shipping business owners discussed safety measures as schedules are gradually returning to normalcy during the coronavirus pandemic, at an online meeting with officials of the Shipping Ministry on Thursday.

The shipowners asked that the protocol being proposed, of a maximum 55 pct capacity per ship, be applied to June 15 and re-examined at that point, based on current epidemiological developments.
They also proposed that all passengers and crew be obliged to wear masks to contain infections.

Crew on coastal schedules have already been trained on how to manage a possible coronavirus outbreak among passengers, while all ships are disinfected daily.
