Turkish attempt to ram Greek frigate boomerangs
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
With an attempt to ram a Greek frigate (probably "Lemnos") observing the Oruc Reis by the Turkish frigate Kemal Reis (or Yavuz) on Wednesday at noon, Ankara tried to turn the tables and further its attempts to conduct illegal surveys within the Greek EEZ.
The attempt to ram the Greek frigate backfired as the Greek ship managed to avoid the ramming and its maneuver caused serious damage to the Turkish warship, which has been forced to backtrack and head home for repairs.
The incident forced Prime Minister Mitsotakis to address the nation, where he made an oblique reference to the incident through a reference to "possible mishaps" in an area saturated with warships. It also led to a flurry of diplomatic activity, with Athens contacting European capitals to inform them of the issue. The incident has been captured, according to sources, on camera and other registers.
The incident shows that Erdogan is becoming erratic after being faced by Greek resolve to counter his illegal moves. It is obvious that Turkey did not expect anything but subservience from Athens, and this Greek government has foiled its every attempt so far, causing haphazard moves on its part.
