Iakovos Tsounis: Donation to the Armed Forces of 23 million euros and 60 landing craft

This special and admirable Greek, a descendant of the heroes of the revolution of 1821, a follower of the tradition of the great benefactors of Hellenism, leaves 23 million euros for the defense of his homeland and 60 amphibious special forces vessels.

Iakovos Tsounis was born in Patras and is a descendant of the warriors of the National Uprising of 1821, Lontaeans and Petmezians, while he himself fought at the age of 16 in the Greek-Italian War of 1940, thus being the youngest veteran of World War II, 

He started as a customs broker in Piraeus. In 1966 he entered shipping as a shipowner, acquiring a total of 13 merchant ships and forming a large fortune. Since then, his great charitable activity begins. His creation is also the Museum, which is located next to his permanent residence on Kyprou Street, in Papagou.

For his total contribution to the homeland in 2018, he received the Commemoration of the Star of Value and Honor and in April 2020, following the opinion of Armed Forces and the proposal of the Minister of National Defense, Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, he was awarded the rank of reservist Major General on price.
