Greek hoteliers send out distress calls – Support measures needed
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
A wave of cancellations for the days of the Epiphany is recorded by the hotels of mountainous and semi-mountainous destinations, with hoteliers questioning the positive “image” described in yesterday’s announcement by the Tourism Minister, Mr. Vassilis Kikilias.
In a letter to the government, the Panhellenic Hoteliers Federation states that the companies are in a dire straits, the liquidity problem is important and the cancellations follow one another.
“As of next week, the hotel occupancy will fall in single digits. There are no reservations, only cancellations. Scheduled exhibitions are postponed indefinitely, the conferences and the events that were to take place are canceled”, they state characteristically.
The Panhellenic Hoteliers Federation makes special reference to the increased energy costs, and calls on the government to take measures to support the hotel industry.
