Coroners' report points to death by asphyxiation for two children of mother charged with murder of eldest daughter

Featured Coroners' report points to death by asphyxiation for two children of mother charged with murder of eldest daughter

Coroners on Monday submitted their report regarding the deaths of two children of a mother who has already been charged with the premeditated murder of her eldest daughter, aged nine.

Toxicological and histological tests carried out earlier this year had revealed ketamine - reportedly not prescribed by any doctor - in the body of the eldest girl, Georgina, who died in January 2022.

On Monday, the two coroners' report said that the deaths of Georgina's six-month-old sister Iris in 2021, and of her 3.5-year-old sister Malena in 2019, are not the result of natural causes, but of asphyxiation. The report was submitted by coroners Nikos Karakounis and Nikos Kalogeras to the Athens Security Directorate's Homicide Department.

The mother, Roula Pispirigou, 33, was arrested in the city of Patras in March, sparking the start of investigations into the cause of death of all three children, which had baffled doctors, and bringing nationwide attention to the case.
