Ιnfanticide in Imathia causeσ new shock yesterday.

A case of infanticide was filed against the woman who was arrested. According to ThessToday.gr, in addition to postpartum depression, she also suffers from a very serious mental illness, for which it was necessary to receive medication.

The 37-year-old woman murdered her 6-month-old baby, in front of the terrified eyes of her other two minor children, who called their maternal grandparents for help. The infant was taken to the Veria hospital, where he ended up, despite the superhuman efforts of the doctors.

Police investigations at the home of the baby killer
The Security Unit of the Veria Police Department collected objects and other evidence from the house where the murder took place, in order to establish the exact circumstances of the incident.

The statements of the neighbors are considered "key" in the case, as they tried to save the baby, as did the relatives from the close family environment, who took him unconscious to the hospital in Veria.

The 37-year-old had serious psychological problems
The community of Imathia knew that the 37-year-old woman who killed her six-month-old baby was facing psychological problems. She is the mother of two other children, she has two little girls, aged 6 and 7, from her first husband who were allegedly present when he beat the infant to death.

The unfortunate baby was born with her second husband, who allegedly left her about a month ago, causing her to move with the three children to a house opposite where her family members live (her sister and her parents).

The local community, which was aware of the 37-year-old's problems, did not expect that she could reach this point, as the rest of her family members were by her side and supported her.

"She had a rage. I forcibly pulled the baby from her hands," said a neighbor, an eyewitness, speaking to thestoday.gr, describing the terrifying scene in Makrohori.

"I heard the children screaming for help. I jumped out and went home. I saw the mother furiously beating her child. I froze. Then I tried to save it by pulling it, but it was too late," he said.

The lawyer, Yiannis Argyriou argued that this was a woman who needed help and had recently faced domestic violence, which resulted in her divorce.

Scenes of ancient tragedy in the infanticide's paternal home
Scenes of an ancient tragedy unfolded in the parental home of the 37-year-old child killer, in Makrochori, Imathia. According to ThessToday.gr. the woman's parents left the Veria Hospital and returned home unable to believe that their daughter cut the thread of her own child's life in such a violent way.

Screams could be heard from the house, with the local community watching the tragic case of infanticide in shock. "My little girl. My little girl is going", is one of the phrases that the 37-year-old mother exclaimed.

Residents and people close to the child killer who spoke to ThessToday describe her as a role model mother. "I wonder how he did such a thing. I saw her walking the children. He always had them neat and loved them. She came in September and rented the house where she lived with her children. Her parents lived two streets away", describes a witness, adding that everyone in the community of Makrohori knew that the tragic mother who worked in a hospital in Thessaloniki suffered from postpartum depression and also from a form of serious mental illness.

The mother was a student in the class that was decimated in the Tempe tragedy in April 2003. She had missed boarding the bus at the last minute and was devastated by the tragic loss of 21 of her classmates. Since then they say she developed psychological problems. She wasn't the only one with post-traumatic stress, as a classmate with serious mental health issues also took his own life in July 2023.
