Featured From the beginning of February, the applications for the postal

After the passing of the bill on postal voting, the Ministry of the Interior began preparations for the proper implementation of this new institution in the electoral history of the country, but also for informing Greek voters, especially those abroad, about the steps they must follow so they can vote from home.

These days, the online platform is being prepared through which those Greek voters who live in Greece who wish to vote by mail and those who live abroad will register. The link to the platform will be announced in the next few days and registrations will start at the beginning of February for the upcoming European elections. The electronic application will be accessible through the Unified Digital Portal of the Public Administration (gov.gr), where voters will be registered on their own in the special electoral list for postal voting. The voter will be identified using the personal codes - credentials of the General Secretariat of Digital Government Information Systems (taxisnet), or with passport and identity card details.

The application becomes final immediately, as soon as it is submitted.Voters can also submit the relevant application through Citizen Service Centers (CSCs), as well as Greek diplomatic authorities abroad.Applications, amendments or cancellations are possible up to 40 days before the election. Given that the European elections are held on June 9, the deadline is April 29. Until that date, the voter can change the delivery address or any other information, as well as cancel his application.

The procedure for registering, changing and canceling the application for registration in the special electoral lists for postal voting, the method of certifying the voter, the possible procedure for sending supporting documents electronically and any other relevant matter will be determined by a joint decision of the Ministers of Interior and Digital Governance. For those expatriates who are not familiar with technology, the electronic application can be submitted on their behalf by the competent consular authorities. This procedure will be determined by a joint decision of the Ministers of Interior and Foreign Affairs.

The postal vote file for the European elections will be sent to the voter by the Ministry of the Interior in May, no later than 20 days before the election, as required by law.It is reminded that for voters who are abroad, this will be the only way to exercise their right to vote from their place of residence in the upcoming European elections, i.e. there will be no possibility of physical presence at a polling station. In order to publicize the changes in the electoral process, the Ministry of the Interior will launch an information campaign through expatriate media and the internet, as happened before the national elections of 2023 when for the first time they were given the opportunity to vote, under conditions, from their place of residence.

At the same time, the leadership of the same ministry has already opened a circle of informational contacts with Greek voters abroad. On Friday, Minister Niki Kerameos went to Cyprus, where she spoke at an open event of the Greek embassy, while Deputy Minister Thodoris Livanios is in Germany since yesterday, where he will have meetings with citizens and organizations of the diaspora.
