Kallithea: Explosion destroys wine cellar
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
A powerful explosion that occurred in the early hours of Monday (11/3) in a cellar in Kallithea spread terror to area residents and completely destroyed a wine cellar..
Due to the tremendous force of the explosion, the area resembled a bombed out landscape as parked cars and nearby shops were massively damaged but luckily there were no injuries.
Α video presented by news outlet iefimerida.gr, captured the explosion of the bomb frame by frame. The sound is deafening, everything is covered by a cloud of smoke, while the alarms from houses and parked cars several meters away started ringing. All the vehicles and motorbikes near the wine cellar were completely destroyed, while there was also serious damage to adjacent apartment buildings.
Another video that is being scrutinized shows a motorbike crossing Alexandrou Pantou Street and suddenly stopping. One of the two riders dismounts and probably plants the bomb which shortly afterwards explodes.
According to information from police, the owner of the wine cellar seems to be the owner of a well-known night club in the same area, which was targeted by bombers on December 31, 2010.
The motives of the bombing are being investigated by the officers of the Extortion Prosecution Department.
At ELAS, for the explosion in Kallithea, they are following the route of the suspicious machine that appears at the scene 2 minutes before the explosion, while a special analysis of the material is done to locate a license plate and faces.
