Α bomb threat email sent to at least 35 schools in Attica, some of which were closed caused anxiety and scrambled the public order authorities..

The mail, which was sent from an email address abroad, was addressed to various schools in Attica, at least 35, in Gerakas, Pallini, Aegaleo, Peristeri and elsewhere.

The directors of the schools informed Hellenic Police-ELAS.about the identical mail they received and checks were immediately carried out by the Police, motorcycle units. and the nearby patrol cars at each school.

 So far nothing has been found. ELAS believes, from the beginning it was a hoax, but they quickly realized that it was sent from abroad - according to information from police sources, and specifically from Russia.

The Electronic Crime unit continues its investigation to find traces of the sender. As reported by EL.AS. in a statement, the perpetrator will be revealed. The aim of the email, as the Police point out in the same announcement, was "to create disturbance and shake the citizens' sense of security".

The email did cause a disturbance, as parents and children who went to school in the morning were informed that they would have to keep the children outside until checks were completed. In many schools the checks have already been completed and the children have been asked to return.

For their part, circles of the Ministry of Education note: "The Ministry of Education, from the first moment it was informed about the malicious electronic messages to some schools in Attica, initiated all the prescribed procedures.

The Electronic Crime Prosecution was already involved in the investigations. This is a spam - false - message and according to the Greek Police there is no cause for concern".

“This morning a large number of schools received an identical email with threatening content.

The message seems to come from abroad, while the massiveness of its mission, even to school units which are currently not functioning, demonstrates that its purpose is to create disturbance and shake the citizens' sense of security", the Headquarters of the THE GREEK POLICE. And it continues:

"In any case, there was an immediate mobilization by the Greek Police so that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the school units, the relevant control could be carried out, while the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate is already conducting an investigation to identify the sender."

 "The safety of citizens and especially the student community is the main concern and first priority for the Ministry of Citizen Protection and the Greek Police and to this end all necessary actions will be taken to uncover the perpetrator."
