Large fire in Athens suburb due to arson

The fire that broke out yesterday in an area near Varis Koropiou Avenue and caused damage to businesses in the area, has been doused and there is no active front.
As the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilia, said on camera this large fire is due to arson, as there are documented indications in the hands of police. and the investigative authorities.
"The investigative authorities of the Fire Department and the Police have at their disposal visual material that clearly shows an arsonist setting fire to dry grass along Varis-Koropiou Avenue, while a little further down a jerrycan with oil and soaked rags was found," said Mr. Kikilias.
Finally, he emphasized that "when we have the permission from the Division for Arson Crimes of the Fire Department and police we will release the material."
Cameras "caught" the arsonist setting fire to two places
According to information from SKAI channel, the arsonist can be seen from the video footage setting fire to two places, while some explosions followed.
At one point there is a boatyard and the arsonist appears to be moving nearby. According to the same information, the arsonist is seen by the cameras covering a large part of his face, probably wearing a mask.
For the big fire in the area, 145 firefighters, 4 infantry units of the 1st Forest Commando Group and 17 aerial vehicles (6 aircraft and 11 helicopters, along with a large number of volunteers, local government forces and the Hellenic Police fought the fire and contributed to safe evacuations, were in the field.
Meanwhile, dozens of fires broke out across the country yesterday due to extremely adverse weather conditions (drought, strong winds, high temperatures, etc.) and the negligent arrest of an arsonist.
