Corfu: Italian tourist hits delivery driver, tries to flee island
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
In Corfu, an 18-year-old tourist from Italy hit a courier employee with his car, abandoned him and tried to flee the island.
The young man, hurrying to catch up with the ship, made dangerous maneuvers and developed speed. At some point, he went into the opposite direction on the main road of Corfu, in order to overtake the cars in front. There, he hit a courier employee on a motorcycle, injuring him, fortunately not seriously.
The Italian, when he realized what had happened, instead of stopping to give first aid to the driver who he hit, picked up speed and disappeared.
A little while later, he tried to leave Corfu by boarding a ferry boat, but there the authorities were waiting for him and arrested him for illegal overtaking, dangerous driving and abandoning a victim. The driver of the motorcycle was taken to the hospital, fortunately his life was not in danger, while at the scene of the accident dozens of other drivers and passers-by rushed to help the motorcyclist.
The 18-year-old Italian is expected to be taken to the Prosecutor, while a case file is being filed against him.
