ETEKA president arrested for oil fraud

The President of the ETEKA group and Atromitos F.C. Giorgos Spanos, has been arrested for his involvement in an illegal fuel smuggling ring.
The President of the bunkering company ETEKA and Atromitos soccer club, Giorgos Spanos, has been arrested for his involvement in a petroleum smuggling ring.
Giorgos Spanos was arrested along with 15 other persons, as police is investigating an illegal fuel smuggling ring that involves fuel station owners, executive officers of petroleum companies as well as ministerial officers.
The charges brought against the suspects include fuel smuggling, fraud, money laundering, bribery and abuse of authority.
The police operation was launched yesterday afternoon and so far 30 people have been detained.
Based on information from official sources, two ministerial officers have been detained . The first is an officer of the Ministry of Environment, Energy & Climate Change and was responsible for coordinating the workshop that made the controls , while the latter was an associate of the first officer.
