Stranded man on Athos rescued and then jailed

The rescue attempt of a 40-year-old man who was stranded in a rocky area in the Frikta Karoulia area on Mount Athos had an incredible development.
After the rescue of the 40-year-old by firefighters and EMAK officials who participated in the investigations, police officers proceeded to arrest him as it was found that he had a pending conviction for an incident of domestic violence.
According to information, the 40-year-old was sentenced to two years in prison by the Tribunal Criminal Court of Chania in June 2018 and was brought back to serve the sentence in June 2023 by decision of the Department of Execution of Penalties of the First Instance Prosecutor's Office of Chania.
The authorities were notified of the 40-year-old's entrapment around 12 noon on Wednesday and eight firefighters and the 2nd EMAK mountaineer team rushed to the area.
The 40-year-old, after his arrest on Wednesday night, will be brought before the competent Criminal Prosecutor of Thessaloniki.
