Featured Bulgari jewellers reestablishes its roots in Epirus

Bulgari’s historic relationship with Greece is getting a new lease on life, as efforts are underway to acquire and restore the first store founded by Sotirios Voulgaris in Paramythia. The founder of the famous jewelry house was born in 1857 in Paramythia, where he took his first steps as a craftsman.

As the mayor of Souli, Thanasis Danis, stated to Greek media protothema.gr, the Municipality of Souli is making efforts to purchase the historic property. The goal is to create a museum-store there that will honor the legacy of Sotirios Voulgaris and connect Paramythia with the global reputation of Bulgari.

Bulgari’s Return to Paramythia

At a meeting held in Rome with members of the Bulgari family and executives of the house, Mr. Danis discussed the revival of the first store and the strengthening of cooperation to promote the project. He revealed that the Bulgari School-Museum, a cultural center dedicated to the art, history and heritage of the house, will open in the summer.

The museum will include exhibits related to the history of the Voulgaris family, such as photographic material, historical objects and jewelry. The revival of the first store is expected to become a point of reference for the local community and visitors, highlighting the close connection of Paramythia with the Bulgari family.

A Precious Heritage

Sotirios Voulgaris, born into a family of silversmiths, opened his first store in Paramythia before being forced to emigrate due to the conditions of the time. After stops in Corfu and Naples, he settled in Rome in 1884, where he founded the famous Bulgari house. With his perseverance and talent, he created one of the leading luxury jewelry houses, bringing Greek identity to global recognition.

The Future of the Collaboration

During the meeting in Rome, Mayor Danis presented the progress of the project to transform the former Voulgaris elementary school into a modern multi-purpose art and culture center. Present were, among others, Nikolaos Voulgaris, grandson of the founder and Vice President of the Bulgari Group, as well as top executives of the house.

The Bulgari family expressed its support for the project and ways to strengthen the collaboration were discussed. The project is expected to be completed soon and will serve as a pole of attraction for visitors from all over the world.

This initiative demonstrates the value of the cultural heritage of Paramythia, highlighting the history of the area and the timeless influence of the Bulgari family in the field of luxury and art.
