Taste Atlas names Dakos best salad in the world
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Following the recognition of Greek cuisine as the world’s best for 2024-2025 and the inclusion of two Greek dishes among the top global selections, Taste Atlas now celebrates Greek salads.
In the list of salads with the highest ratings, Dakos ranks first with 4.5 stars out of five. “Dakos is a traditional Cretan dish consisting of a dry barley rusk, mizithra cheese, diced ripe tomatoes, whole olives, capers, fresh oregano, and generous drizzles of olive oil,” describes Taste Atlas.

In third place is the Greek salad, with 4.4 stars: “It is Greece’s national dish and consists of tomatoes, sliced onions, cucumber slices, and, depending on the region, olives, green peppers, feta cheese, oregano, salt, pepper, olive oil, lemon juice, or vinegar. When feta is included, it is cut into slices, but in some cases, it is mixed with a fork until slightly crumbled. Its name suggests it was a rural dish, prepared by farmers who mixed basic ingredients from the field. Greek salad is truly a summer dish, full of refreshing raw vegetables and herbs.”
Four additional Greek salads made it to the list of the 100 best salads:
- Boiled greens in 25th place
- Potato salad in 39th place
- Tuna salad in 52nd place
- Beet salad in 61st place
The 10 Best Salads in the World:

- Shopska Salad – Bulgaria
- Mechouia Salad – Tunisia
