An armed robbery with scenes of cinematic suspense unfolded a short time ago at a bank branch in Katohi, Aitoloakarnania region, with the perpetrators holding hostages for 15 minutes, opening the safe and leaving unmolested with 200,000 euros in their hands.
According to initial information, two people, armed and with their features covered, broke into the bank shortly after it opened. Under threat of weapons, they immobilized employees, holding the hostages for 15 minutes while they waited for the safe to be unlocked.
When the process was completed and the robbers gained access to the interior, they grabbed 200,000 euros and disappeared before the authorities arrived at the scene. The police have launched a manhunt to locate them, while an alarm has been raised in the area.
So far there are no reports of injuries, while all the hostages are in good health, although in a state of shock.
The police authorities will collect testimonies and footage from security cameras to identify the perpetrators and trace their escape route. The possibility that there was a third person as a "look out" is being seriously examined.
