Fire in Kavala threatens residential areas
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
A fire is currently raging in a suburban forest in the Aspri Ammos area of Kavala.
Kavala is on high alert after a fire broke out shortly before 1:30 p.m. today in a forest area near the eastern entrance to the city, threatening residential areas and tourist spots by the sea.
112 sounded a warning, calling on residents to be on the alert and follow the instructions of the Authorities, as winds are fanning the flames and causing constant resurgences, making the work of the Fire Department difficult.
Strong ground forces, 42 firefighters and 2 groups of pedestrians from the 2nd and 7th EMODE departments, 10 vehicles and three fire helicopters are operating from the air and ground, fighting against time to contain the fire before it reaches homes and infrastructure.
The situation remains critical, while civil protection is on constant alert, with residents anxiously monitoring the development of the fire fronts.
Message from 112
Shortly before 2 pm, a warning message from 112 sounded on the mobile phones of residents and visitors to the area to be on alert.
