Andreas Loverdos joins ruling New Democracy party

Andreas Loverdos and executives of the "Democrats" party, which the former minister founded in March 2024, have joined New Democracy.
According to initial information, Mr. Loverdos will likely be a candidate on the New Democracy ballot in the Southern Sector of North Athens
Earlier today, Prime Minister and President of New Democracy Kyriakos Mitsotakis met at the Maximos Mansion with Andreas Loverdos and executives of the "Democrats" party (Maria Milini, Tatiana Douvara, Panagiotis Konsola, Yiannis Vouros), whom he welcomed to ND.
"We welcome Professor Andreas Loverdos and executives of the Democrats to New Democracy. He himself needs no introduction, as he already has a long career in politics. While our party has proven that it keeps its doors open to any force that believes in a strong, modern, democratic and European Greece,” Mr. Mitsotakis said in his statement after the meeting.
“Far from labels and dogmas, therefore, we unite our efforts for a better life for citizens and a better future for the country. Especially in an international context of uncertainty that imposes unity, cooperation and internal political stability. Andreas, a good start and a good force,” the Prime Minister concluded.
For his part, Andreas Loverdos stated “with Kyriakos Mitsotakis and New Democracy, patriotically, reformist, liberally.”
It is noted that Mrs. Milini is the closest associate of Andreas Loverdos, Mrs. Douvara is a representative of the "Democrats" party, Mr. Konsolas is a constant associate of the former minister and Yiannis Vouros is the popular actor who has served as mayor of Nea Philadelphia.
Who is Andreas Loverdos
Andreas Loverdos was first elected MP with PASOK in 2000, something he did again in the elections of 2004, 2007, 2009, 2012, 2015 and 2019.
His first portfolio was as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, while he subsequently assumed the positions of Minister of Labor, Minister of Health, Minister of Education.
In March 2024, he founded the Democrats party, with which he participated in the European elections of the same year.
Andreas Loverdos was born in Patras in 1956. He is Associate Professor of Constitutional Law at Panteion University, where he was a Special Postgraduate Scholar from 1984-86, a Lecturer from 1987-92 and an Assistant Professor of Constitutional Law from 1992-95.
