- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The new incident of violence between minors that occurred in Tripoli, with a 12-year-old student as the victim, is shocking.
The child is hospitalized in serious condition at the Children's Hospital in Athens, after being stabbed allegedly by his 13-year-old classmate.
The incident took place outside a school in the city, when the two students argued intensely, reportedly over insulting comments that were heard about a girl, a friend of one of the two.
The fight got out of control, resulting in a 10-centimeter-long knife being pulled out and serious injuries being reported.
During the struggle, according to the authorities, the 13-year-old, who was allegedly the first to be attacked, took the same knife and stabbed the 12-year-old in the neck and back.
"He was slashed everywhere, it wasn't a household knife", said the grandmother of the 12-year-old
The words of the grandmother of the 12-year-old are shocking, as she described the moments of agony when she saw her grandson injured. "In the eye, in the neck, in the back, where can I tell you? He was slashed everywhere. It wasn't a household knife, it was something more special. It stabbed him everywhere," she told Mega.
Denial of knife possession
The family denies that its child was in possession of the knife. The grandmother of the 12-year-old claims that her grandson "didn't even pick up bread to cut" for fear of being cut, while the grandmother of the 13-year-old insists that the other student was the first to hold the knife.
“I’m worried about both children. My grandson didn’t have a knife, nor an knuckle duster. He cut his hands. Where were the teachers? Were there no other children there?”, said the grandmother of the 13-year-old.
Father of 12-year-old: “He almost pierced his carotid artery”
The father of the injured child told the Star: “He stabbed him repeatedly. He almost pierced his carotid artery, he missed it by a millimetre. He also stabbed him in the back of the neck and in the side twice, and in the shoulder, he crippled him. He didn’t stop beating him. He came out covered in blood on the street and asked for help.”
"The child is in stable condition, he is in intensive care, and we are waiting for more information, but he has an issue with his eye, his eyelid is closed and his pupil is not turning," added the 12-year-old's father.
The 12-year-old underwent surgery at the Children's Hospital - The 13-year-old is in the investigator's office today
The two children were initially transferred to the Panarcadic Hospital of Tripoli, however, due to the seriousness of the situation, it was deemed necessary to transfer the 12-year-old to Athens, where he underwent surgery at the Children's Hospital.
The knife was located and confiscated by the police authorities. At the same time, a case was filed against the parents of the two students for neglecting the supervision of minors.
The preliminary investigation is continuing by the Tripoli Crime Investigation and Prosecution Department, while the 13-year-old is expected to appear before the investigating judge today, in the presence of a prosecutor and a lawyer.
