Three brothers involved in deadly Crete vendetta surrender

The suspects, aged 19, 27, and 29, turned themselves in at the Heraklion police headquarters. Their surrender followed an intense manhunt and complex negotiations.

The 19-year-old is a serving soldier whose commander reportedly alerted the General Police Director of Crete after the young man requested leave, allegedly claiming his motorcycle was stolen.

Authorities then placed the soldier's phone under surveillance, tracking his movements.

A family member later contacted the police director, requesting a halt to the searches in exchange for the brothers' surrender.

Officials refused, vowing to continue the manhunt until they were in custody, which occurred soon after.

The village of Vorizia remains under heavy police guard to prevent retaliation.

The funeral for one victim, 39-year-old Fanouris Kargakis, was held Tuesday afternoon in Chania. The second victim, a 57-year-old relative of the surrendered suspects, was also buried the same day.

Kostas Fragkiadakis, the brother of the 57-year-old victim, appealed for peace.

"We have been threatened with executions, grenade attacks, and more," Mr. Fragkiadakis told MEGA television.
