Rivers of mud on the roads in a village in Gythio

These are difficult times in the village of Platanos in Gythio, an area for which a message was sent by 112 on Thursday afternoon.

Houses, crops, cars, animals and agricultural machinery have been covered by large quantities of water due to the bad weather.

Residents are talking about a "biblical disaster", as within a few hours the entire settlement was submerged in water, with the result that most people have taken refuge on the first floors of their houses to save themselves.

They talk about houses flooded up to the ground floor ceiling, crops destroyed, cars and agricultural machinery swept away by the rushing waters, and even animals that were lost in the darkness of the night by the river of mud and debris.

The residents, mostly elderly, are waiting for rescuers to arrive by boat as many do not have electricity, water or a means of communication with the village, which is essentially cut off.

The situation is difficult in Lindos

The situation is also difficult in Lindos, Rhodes, where there are also floods and in fact, schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday.
