Storm Byron to continue unabated well into Saturday

The National Meteorological Service proceeded with a new update of the Emergency Bulletin of Hazardous Weather Phenomena that it had issued on Wednesday (03/12) at noon on Friday.

The Emergency Bulletin of Hazardous Weather Phenomena with a.a 7 that was issued on Wednesday 03-12-25 12:30 local time, is updated according to the latest forecast data.
The heavy rains and storms that occur in most areas of the eastern and southern part of the country will continue today, Friday (05-12-2025) and until the midday hours of Saturday (06-12-2025).
It is noted that the rainfall, in addition to being very intense, will also be of long duration. The phenomena in many areas will be strong and will be accompanied by local hail and at times by very strong winds.
1. The weather system named Byron, which is occurring today, Friday (05-12-2025), is causing severe weather in most of the eastern part of the country.

More specifically, heavy rains and storms are expected:
a. in central Macedonia
b. in Thessaly and the Sporades
c. in the islands of the Eastern Aegean (northern Chios and further south) and the Dodecanese
d. in the Cyclades and mainly the western and southern parts of Crete, until early afternoon
e. in central and eastern Central Greece (including Attica) and in Euboea until early afternoon
The phenomena will be at times particularly strong and potentially dangerous (red warning): in the regional units of Pieria - Imathia - Pella - Chalkidiki - Thessaloniki, in Thessaly and the Sporades, in the islands of the Eastern Aegean (northern Chios and further south) and in the Dodecanese and until early afternoon in Euboea.
2. On Saturday (06-12-2025) it is predicted that from the morning hours the strong phenomena in most areas will weaken and will be limited:
a. in central Macedonia (regional units of Pieria - Imathia - Pella - Chalkidiki, until the morning hours.
b. in the Dodecanese (from N. Samos and further south), until noon.
Emergency announcement of the Civil Protection for the bad weather Byron
The Risk Assessment Committee was convened by the Secretary General of Civil Protection, Nikos Papaefstathiou, today Friday, December 05, 2025.
The subject of the meeting was the latest data on the bad weather "BYRON" that is currently underway.
According to the scientists of the Committee:
1) Today, Friday, heavy rains and storms will occur in Imathia, Pieria, Thessaly, Fthiotida.
2) In Evia, the Cyclades, Crete, the islands of the Eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese, local phenomena will occur from time to time.
3) Gradual weakening of the phenomena tomorrow, Saturday.
The National Coordination Center for Operations and Crisis Management (ESKEDIK) is in constant communication with the A’ and B’ degree local authorities as well as with all involved bodies regarding the weather phenomena that are in progress, monitors the implementation of operational plans, operational readiness and deals with incidents that arise.
It is recalled that the “RED CODE” readiness status issued on Wednesday (03/12/2025) remains in force.
