Greece: AI pledges from tech giants for digital state services
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Greece has secured commitments from global tech giants, including OpenAI and Microsoft, to integrate artificial intelligence into its public services, Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou announced following a major summit in India.
Mr. Papastergiou said the new agreements, which also include the European AI developer Mistral AI, will focus on making the government’s gov.gr digital portal more accessible for the elderly and citizens with disabilities.
The partnerships were forged on the sidelines of the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, which concluded Thursday.
"Greece is strengthening its global AI role to enhance daily life, the economy, and our institutions," Mr. Papastergiou said in a statement.
He accompanied Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the two-day event, echoing the premier's calls for equitable access and the responsible use of technology.
Beyond accessibility, the government's priorities include establishing transparent frameworks to tackle disinformation and creating safer digital environments for youth.
The New Delhi summit gathered dozens of world leaders to discuss the societal impact of artificial intelligence.
Mr. Papastergiou’s meetings underscore Athens’ broader tech diplomacy strategy, which seeks to position the nation as a digital bridge between the European Union and the Global South as the bloc rolls out its landmark AI Act.
