Chania: Instead of burning Judas, they burned down the school
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Significant damage was reported at the Nea Kydonia High School in Chania when, instead of burning Judas as the custom dictates, the school almost burned down.
The fire destroyed the school's pergola, affected part of the yard, while limited damage was also recorded in a classroom.
According to information from patris.gr, the principal had informed the authorities that minors were collecting branches for construction, while tension with a resident of the area had allegedly preceded it.
The Municipality of Chania has proceeded with the cleaning of the area and is initiating the restoration of the hall, so that the school can operate normally after the Easter holidays.
At the same time, the Chania Fire Department is conducting an ex officio investigation into the incident, due to the damage caused to a public building.
