Foreign Ministry expresses strong concen over incidents in Albania

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its strong concern over the incidents that took place yesterday, 30 May 2026, in Zvërnec, Albania, during a protest by residents over their property rights, among whom is a Greek citizen who was injured," the Foreign Ministry stated in an announcement on Sunday.
It emphasized that the Greek Embassy in Tirana immediately took all necessary actions in order to provide him with all required consular and medical assistance.
"The Embassy of Greece in Tirana is also making the necessary representations to the Albanian side, requesting a full investigation of the incident and the attribution of responsibility," it added, noting: "In this context, we take note of the initial response of the Albanian authorities."
"We underline the need for full respect of the rule of law, including the protection of the rights and property of members of the Greek national minority, as well as the importance of effective protection of protected environmental areas, in line with alignment to the European acquis, compliance with which is a prerequisite for progress in the accession process," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
