Earthquakes rock North Evia - Felt in Athens

“We have extensive landslides, fortunately so far no injuries have been recorded. The main problems are found on roads in the areas of Plakias and Dafnousa,” the mayor of Mantoudio - Limni - Agia Anna, Yiannis Tsapourniotis, told public broacaster ERT.

According to the deputy mayor of Mantoudi, Argyris Liaskos, damage has been recorded in houses in Dafnousa, with large cracks appearing in some houses. As he stated, the residents managed to get out of the buildings in time, without being in danger.

The extent of the damage was also confirmed by the deputy governor of Evia, Giorgos Kelaiditis, who stated to evima.gr that damage has been recorded in houses, buildings and shops in the area.

“At this time, there is great unrest among the residents, as the earthquake was particularly felt. Damage has been reported to houses, shops, and also to the church of Agios Georgios outside Prokopi, where a baptism was being held at the time and the priest immediately left the church,” he said.

At the same time, according to government sources, so far, the teams operating in the area are mainly reporting small cracks in houses and limited landslides at road points. At the same time, continuous communication is underway with the mayor of the area, as well as with the General Secretariat for Natural Disaster Recovery of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.
